Being a California girl, I was so totally stoked to see Night Ranger last Friday night. It had been awhile since I’d see them, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
They came out guns ablazin with the appropriately titled, “Lay It On Me” off their current album, “Somewhere in California”. An odd choice for an opening song. Most bands play it safe and go with a known hit, but this was perfect.

The obvious MC for the night, Mr. Jack Blades, kept us entertained as he told stories and introduced songs. From “Sing Me Away” to “Touch of Madness” and “Seven Wishes”, what a blast to hear those songs live again.

Next…guitar solo from the man who proudly proclaimed, “I just turned 55 and I’m not afraid to admit it!” In true rock star form, Brad Gillis ripped into “Crazy Train” and showed us all why Ozzy chose him to fill in after the tragedy of Randy Rhoads death.

Suddenly I remembered all those great songs they’ve done like “Secret Of My Success” and “When You Close Your Eyes”. Jack even indulged us in a few Damn Yankees songs, “Coming of Age” and “High Enough”.
Two songs that stood out for me was “Sentimental Street “ and the inevitable encore, “Sister Christian”. Can I just tell you how much I love Kelly Keagy’s voice? Severely underrated. Yes, he does remind you a bit of a cross between Will Ferrell and your friend’s dad, but he’s still got it!

Sure they boys have aged. I mean, c’mon, they’ve been doin this since the early 80’s. No matter what, you could tell they LOVE what they do and didn’t slack one bit. “You can STILL rock in America”. Damn straight.
I don’t know if seeing Night Ranger made me feel old or young again, but I sure had fun!
